The Big Push Reading NCT sponsored walk on Sun 22 May 2011
Written by: drobs
Come along for an amazing day out at The Big Push Reading — an NCT sponsored walk on Sun 22 May at the Thameside Promenade (RG1 8BD) just behind Rivermead, near Caversham Bridge. We’re raising funds and awareness for post-natal depression.
The route has been chosen for all abilities, and you can turn around and come back at any point.
Walk side-by-side with your buggy buddies on the wide concrete path, admire the view from the benches, stop and feed the ducks or power walk all the way to Scours Lane and back (approx. 1 hour walk there and back). You don’t need to be a ’walker’, you don’t need to have children, just come along, enjoy the day and support this worthy cause.

1000 Check-in opens at the Thameside Promenade RG1 8BD
1030 Warm up
1045 Walk begins
Afterwards Certificates, raffle (we have some great prizes) and a picnic
WHY ARE WE DOING IT?
Estelle Farmer, volunteer event organiser writes,
”I’m raising money for the NCT becuase I have benefited so much from their work in the past 12 months. My husband and I attended their fanastic antenatal classes and made some great friends who have supported and celebrated with us during our first 8 months of parenthood. Half of all new mums experience some form of ’baby blues’ and, sadly, for 1 in 10 this becomes a far more serious problem.
Luckily I made it through those early months with nothing worse then the odd tough day and a whole host of delightful memories. But having met many mums, I realise how easily things can escalate to a feeling of being helpless and alone — or worse.
Fortunately, the NCT can help. The money raised at the Big Push will assist parents in the early days after the birth, when they particularly need reassurance and help to adjust.”
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Please join us for a fantastic day and register here: http://www2.nct.org.uk/public/Big_Push_Registration/. It’s £5 per individual or £8 per family (to cover organisational costs).
If you don’t feel like doing the walk, could you offer support in another way? E.g. putting up posters and handing out leaflets, donating a cake for the picnic, getting your contacts to supply a prize for the raffle, being an event assistant on the day, getting your friends to take part or simply sponsoring someone to do it. Even forwarding this email could help.
