Possible new Thames pedestrian and cycle bridge

Reading Borough Council has lodged a £24.2 million bid for Government money to create a series of ‘green’ transport initiatives including a new pedestrian and cycle bridge across the Thames, expanded Park and Ride facilities in neighbouring boroughs and a bike hire scheme for Reading.

Be vigilant as burglars target lower Caversham

Over the last couple of months nearly 40 homes in lower Caversham have been targeted by burglars. Make sure you property is adequately secure and keep an eye out for suspicious people or noises.

Properties targeted include three in Church Street, three in Kings Road and three in Southview Avenue. Other houses in Elliotts Way, St Johns Road, Henley Road, Talbot Close, Amersham Road, Clanmel Close, Piggotts Road and were also burgled.

Violent Robberies – Arrests Made

Police are investigating whether a third violent robbery in Caversham this week is linked to two at the weekend.

The latest raid was at Smith’s News in Gosbrook Road on Wednesday by two men who had their faces covered. One attacked the shopkeeper while the other filled a holdall with cigarettes.

The 27-year-old victim was treated at Royal Berkshire Hospital for head injuries following the 10pm attack.

Tesco Express to replace The Star pub Caversham?

Tesco is rumoured to be expanding its Tesco Express shops in Reading further and one of the possible sites is The Star pub, in Lower Caversham, the freehold of which is currently up for sale.

Apparently Tesco has refused to confirm or deny the rumours.

Neighbours and locals say meetings have taken place between the pub owner Enterprise Inns and Tesco but there is no evidence available to support this.
